Three simple pleasures shaped this trip: Serbian food, a city walk and beautiful scenery. First came Leskovac, with dinner and a night at Apostolović. The next day brought Niš, followed by a nature stop on the way back to Sofia.

Leave time for Serbian food and a long dinner. The complex serves traditional Serbian and Leskovac dishes, including grilled specialities. This is a worthwhile part of the journey in itself.

A city to take at walking pace
We remember Niš as a pleasant city with a compact centre. It is an easy place to wander: head down to the river, cross the bridge, climb up to the fortress walls and look out over the city. That simple walk was enough for us that day, without a long checklist of sights.

And finally, out into nature
After the hotel and the city, we were still craving some nature. On the way back to Sofia, we headed for Sićevačka klisura. Rocks, green slopes and wide-open views gave the trip exactly the ending we had hoped for.

A taste of Serbia.
A little mountain air.
Two days are enough for a change of scene: dinner in Leskovac, a good night's rest, a walk around Niš and some nature on the way home. That is how we remember this route.
